What’s New for #NEM2025?
The Student Impact Challenge
One of the most anticipated additions to NEM Ontario this year is the Student Impact Challenge. This competition is designed to inspire Ontario’s engineering students to tackle real-world challenges and showcase their innovative solutions. Students can lead impactful events—like hackathons, community outreach, or workshops—addressing today’s critical issues in health, sustainability, technology, and accessibility. The challenge encourages students to think outside the box and offers a hefty cash prize, with $4,000 awarded for the top event! There are also 5 early-bird cash prizes available for teams that register before December 31, 2024. The challenge is open to post-secondary students enrolled in engineering degree programs in Ontario, so encourage your students to get involved.

The Call for Event Leaders
The success of NEM Ontario depends on the creativity and dedication of its amazing event leaders. This year, we’re calling on both post-secondary students and professionals to take part in leading events. As an event leader, you’ll be at the heart of NEM, helping to inspire others and create memorable experiences.
Why Lead an Event?
- Make a Lasting Impact: Organizing an event during NEM allows you to contribute to meaningful change, whether by educating others, tackling real-world challenges, or sparking new interest in engineering
- Enhance Your Skills and Resume: Leading an event gives you hands-on experience in project management, public speaking, teamwork, and networking. These are valuable skills that can help you advance in your career, making you stand out to future employers.
- Connect with Like-Minded People: NEM events bring together a diverse community of engineers, students, and industry experts. As an event leader, you’ll get the opportunity to network, exchange ideas, and build relationships that can benefit you professionally and personally.
- Gain Recognition and Support: Leading an event gives you a chance to showcase your leadership abilities and your passion for engineering. NEM Ontario also provides event leaders with resources, promotional support, and guidance to ensure a successful experience. New for this year – event leaders can submit a picture & bio for recognition on the NEM social media channels as our way of saying thank you for everything you do for Ontario’s engineering community!
