Seneca Polytechnic: Pioneering Excellence in Engineering Education

National Engineering Month is an opportunity to highlight the remarkable journey and contributions of Seneca Polytechnic’s Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering Technology (FASET) in the field of engineering. Seneca is a beacon of innovation and excellence in education, and its engineering faculty stands at the forefront of this legacy.

Located in Toronto, Seneca has been a leader in postsecondary education for more than five decades. With a commitment to providing high-quality, career-focused education, Seneca has become a comprehensive polytechnic institution. FASET promotes innovation and excellence in engineering education through cutting-edge programs, state-of-the-art facilities, and real-world experience.

FASET offers a range of programs designed to meet the evolving needs of the engineering industry. From diplomas and advanced diplomas to degrees and graduate certificates, the faculty provides students with the knowledge and skills required to excel in various engineering disciplines. Some of the standout programs include software engineering, biotechnology, civil and environmental engineering technology, mechatronics and cybersecurity, and we are always working to expand our program offerings to keep up with advances in technology.

Seneca is committed to providing a hands-on learning experience through state-of-the-art facilities. FASET’s laboratories and workshops are equipped with the latest technology, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings.

Another advantage that FASET offers is our strong connection with industry partners. These partnerships provide opportunities for co-op placements, internships and applied research, affording Seneca graduates both valuable experiences and professional networks. Our emphasis on experiential learning paves the way for a smooth transition from the classroom to the workforce, and students enter the job market with credentials and, often, industry certifications as well.

Our goal is to produce well-rounded engineering graduates. We not only equip our students with the technical skills they will need when they join the workforce, but we also emphasize the values espoused in the areas of Truth and Reconciliation; equity, diversity and inclusion; sustainability; and human skills. These skills are woven into the curriculum, producing graduates who are curious, ambitious, reflective, ethical and compassionate, in addition to being skilled in their engineering area of study.

Seneca is proud of the achievements of our students and alumni. Graduates of the engineering faculty have gone on to make significant contributions in their respective fields, from pioneering new technologies to leading major infrastructure projects. FASET’s dedication to excellence is reflected in the success stories of our alumni who continue to uphold Seneca’s reputation for producing top-tier engineering professionals. Most recently, at the Ontario Engineering Competition 2025, Seneca software engineering students placed first in the programming category and earned a spot in the Canadian Engineering Competition at the national level this spring.

As we celebrate National Engineering Month, we invite aspiring engineers and technologists to join the Seneca community. With a rich history of innovation, cutting-edge programs, experiential learning opportunities and a commitment to our core social values, FASET offers an unparalleled educational experience. Whether you are passionate about biotechnology engineering, software engineering, automation or mechanical design, Seneca will provide you with the foundation needed for a successful and fulfilling career.
