Our event will be a design-a-thon in the style of a consulting challenge. Competitors will be able to register in teams for the event, finding out about the specific details of the challenge on the day of. It will be a one-day challenge, focusing on a prompt related to the in-progress Hamilton LRT and its integration with the rest of the HSR (Hamilton Street Rail) network. The start of the event will go over the topic, resources available (specifically GIS data available from the Open Data Hamilton website), and expectations for final deliverables. There will then be a tutorial session for all relevant software (very likely QGIS among others). The lessons will be beginner friendly to encourage participation from competitors of all academic backgrounds and abilities. Following that, several hours will be made available for competitors to complete the consulting challenge, presentations and judging taking place afterwards. With help from local engineering chapters, we hope to have working professionals on our judging panel. Top ranked teams will be given prize money and certificates.
