My event for week 5 is about Engineers in Politics. Often the importance of STEM educations is discussed but so very few enter politics or even stay politically engaged. As Professional Engineer, with experience in consulting I can see how important it is to get involved and stay involved. Mayor decisions at the political level are not necessarily calculated and bounded the way an “engineer” might necessarily set out to solve them. Thus taking the technical knowledge, problem solving approaches and moving them into the political arena is needed now more than ever. This is not with out challenges, as the softer skills to win over others and explain things in a manor that others will be able to grasp to make difficult decisions is not easy.
