UP4 The Challenge
As part of a new initiative called UP4 The Challenge, we will be organizing two events in partnership with Evergreen at the Toronto Brick Works. Both events will be aimed at youth in grades 7-10, to create awareness about how science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) support solutions to social and environmental challenges in the community, in this case sustainable cities and urban agriculture. The first event will offer drop-in style activities — approximately 15 minutes in length — during Seedy Sunday (March 17th) that will provide participants with an understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of human-centred design. The second event, a half-day workshop for up to 20 participants, will take place on the following weekend (Sunday March 24th). Workshop facilitators will introduce participants to the importance and challenges of designing sustainable cities, lead them through a hands-on user-centred design process, and conduct a specially-developed STEM integration activity to empower an appreciation of how STEM supports social outcomes from their design.
