STEMulating a solution to flooding
March 21 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Floods impact more people globally than any other type of natural hazard, having affected 2.3 billion people in the past two decades (UNDRR, 2015). The nature of disastrous floods has also changed in recent years, especially with urbanization significantly increasing flood run-offs. Through facilitated discussion and hands on learning, this event will address the issue of flooding and displacement due to climate change using a design challenge model. We will discuss the ethics behind climate change as well as socio-economical barriers to access (i.e., why amphibious houses are feasible for some countries/areas and not others).
