Canadian Universities have entered a competition with a dozen US schools to redesign a Chevrolet Camaro to reduce its environmental impact, while maintaining the muscle and performance expected from this iconic American car. The US Depertment of Energy  sponsored competition is called EcoCar3 and will be taking place over the next few years (2014-2018).

McMaster University and the University of Waterloo have both decided to take on the sustainability focused challenge and represent our country against some tough competition from their US counterparts.

We all love driving fast; while avoiding tickets, but how much do we really think about the environmental impact of our day to day driving? Engineers and technology professionals are always coming up with creative solutions on how to mitigate the harmful effects of combustion engines. Hybrid vehicles are a stepping stone in the right direction to helping reduce modern transportation’s carbon footprint.

The National Engineering Month 2017 team is proud to call both Canadian competitors are supporters of the NEM 2017 campaign. These schools understand the importance of STEM outreach and the significant role engineers and technology professionals play in the fight for sustainability.

The Earth can survive without us, and as we saw last week, there are very likely other life carrying planets in the universe. The fact is, we can not survive without the Earth’s biosphere. We are all connected which is why we’re proud to ally with organizations and schools helping to make the planet a healthier place.

We thank McMaster University and the University of Waterloo for their continued support and look forward to seeing how they engineer the future of transportation.
