Did you know that nuclear power is used to generate almost 60% of Ontario’s electricity? Nuclear science and engineering have a long and storied history in Ontario, with CANDU Reactor technology being exported to other countries in order to generate electricity.
The nuclear industry is so important to Ontario that McMaster University has a working nuclear reactor right on campus! It began operating in 1959 and is used for research and education.
You can actually take tours of the reactor, and the folks at McMaster have a virtual tour that you can view online!
